Edith González will be Doña Barbara

The Mexican actress has signed on to star in the new Telemundo production.

      After saying goodbye to the musical Aventurera, Edith González will prepare to star in Doña Barbara, a new production headed by Telemundo and SonyPictures International.

      The 43-year-old blond will bring author Rómulo Gallegos's famed character to life. The production will be a new adaptation of the 1945 version which starred Mexican diva María Felix.

     The star of telenovela Salomésaid the role would be a huge challenge, because the character has a turbulent past and a tough-as-nails personality, and she goes against all odds to conquer love.

      Filming will start on June 30 in Colombia with the help of RTI Colombia, who also worked on producing the telenovela El Zorro. Doña Barbara will start airing this summer on Telemundo.
