Luis Miguel will have to hand over between $800,000 and $1 million to Arturo Pérez after losing a lawsuit brought by the former keyboard player, who charged that the singer fired him unjustly.

According to Mexican newspaper El Universal, Pérez said via telephone at a 2005 press conference that the 37-year-old singer fired him after he missed two concerts for health-related issues. “It’s always humiliating when you lose your job like that. After he fired me I never heard from him again. As an artist I think he’s Mexico’s best, but as a person, my perception of him has changed,” the keyboard player expressed.

Pérez’s lawyers informed that Miguel has already been notified about the suit and the amount he’ll have to pay. According to lawyer Alejandro Velásquez, the fee could increase once experts look further into the matter. “In two or three months we’ll know the final result,” he stated.

Although the “Bésame mucho” singer doesn’t run the risk of going to jail, if he doesn’t pay some of his property could be impounded, reports La oreja (Televisa).
