Salma's Ex Describes the Arrival of Valentina Paloma

The actress sent a text message to Josh Lucas to share the good news

Salma Hayek couldn't hide her excitement after the birth of her first child Valentina Paloma Pinault, who arrived to the world on Sept. 21. The glowing mother, 41, not expecting that her friends would hear the good news from the media first, took it upon herself to send them text messages and let them in on the big event.

"I got a text from her the other night. 7 lbs, 7 oz., and everyone is healthy and happy," Josh Lucas told PEOPLE. The U.S. actor dated the Mexican actress for nine months.

The Poseidon star took the opportunity to express his happiness for his ex-girlfriend and good friend. "For someone you care about and love as much as I love her, I was just so happy for her," he remarked.

Lucas, 36, said he's sure the Frida star "will be a doting and loving mother. The way she is with her dogs, I can't even imagine what she'll be like with her kid."

The actor said he plans on visiting Hayek and her new baby within a week and a half.
