Script: Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember

Grade: A-
Steve Carell seemed like the perfect shoe-in to play Maxwell Smart, even though we all know how Hollywood can make a mess out of a movie that's adapted from a TV series. But don't worry, 'cause that isn't the case here. Director Peter Segal aptly captures the spirit of the TV show on film, so prepare yourself for a good laugh.
A great advantage of this movie is that it successfully manages to transition the story to the present day, without compromising the central characters. Maxwell had more modern gadgets now, and he fights against terrorists, but still remains his old self.
It should be noted that this film adaptation is such a success because of its stellar cast. Steve Carell fully channels Maxwell Smart, and shares excellent onscreen chemistry with his co-star Anne Hathaway. Alan Arkin is perfect as agents 86's chief, and Terrence Stamp could probably win an award for his work as the lethal Seigfried, the head of the evil organization KAOS.
If you're a fan of the old TV show, you won't want to miss out on the movie. We assure you that the film doesn't disappoint, and with luck, we may soon see a sequel.
