Fernando Luján Hospitalized for Blocked Artery

The renowned actor is stable after undergoing an angioplasty procedure

Actor Fernando Luján underwent an angioplasty today to unclog a blocked artery that was damaging his health, reports Mexican newspaper El Universal.

Martha Mariana Castro, actress and wife of the 69-year-old actor, spoke with Notimex news agency to assure the world that her husband is doing fine after the procedure, but she added that if there are any complications, doctors will have to perform open heart surgery.

"It was really scary, but everything's fine, and Fernando is doing well and is thankful for the chance to keep living," Castro said.

The El coronel no tiene quien le escriba actor is recovering in the hospital and is scheduled to check out this Friday. His wife also mentioned that her husband will have to adhere to a strict diet and continue to rest once he gets home.

Luján is a Mexican icon who's had roles in more than 100 films and 40 plays. In the television world, he's known for his work on Cadenas de amargura and Mirada de mujer.
