"There is a chance he may not make it," Dr. Alex Valadka, director of neurotrauma services at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, said. "Everyone needs to understand that right up front. That's how bad it is," the physician said of the Tejano singer's state.
According to the police report, Navaira did not have a license to drive the bus. The singer and six other passengers were injured as a result of the crash, but only Navaira and one other band member are still hospitalized.
Navaira is considered by many to be one of the leading musicians of the Tejano music genre. In 2003, he won a GRAMMY for his album Acuérdate. This isn't the first car accident the artist has experienced. In 2005, he was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his car in San Antonio.
