"In our fantasy world, the guy stays with the girl, the hero kills the villains, and cancer doesn't exist," said Jennifer Aniston, a presenter at the benefit, who was referring to the need to eradicate cancer by funding more scientific research.
The actress was also joined by Barack Obama and John McCain, along with other stars including Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, Patrick Swayze, Billy Crystal, Jennifer Garner and Casey Affleck, who answered phones to take pledges and donations during the telethon, with aired live on NBC, CBS and ABC.
James Taylor, Sheryl Crow (who conquered breast cancer), and Mónica Mancini performed during the telethon, but the musical highlight was Beyoncé Knowles, Mariah Carey and Mary Blige, singing "Just Stand Up" together from New York.
