Cameron Díaz broke the silence yesterday following the death of her father, Cuban-American Emilio Díaz. In a statement issued to the press, the actress thanked those who have supported her during this difficult time and talked about her love for her father.

"My mom, sister and I are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time for us and all of our family," said the 35-year-old actress, who shut down production on her upcoming film My Sister's Keeper when she found out about her father's passing. "My dad was loved by so many people, and his humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts," the message continued.

Emilio Díaz died suddenly of pneumonia on Tuesday. He was 58.
