American Ferrera urges voters to say NO to Proposition 8

The Ugly Betty star is seen in an ad campaign opposing a proposition that would ban gay civil unions in California

Prop 8 campaign launched a powerful new Spanish language television adfeaturing America Ferrera, Tony Plana and Ana Ortiz, three from the hit TV show Ugly Betty. (ABC) The "NO" on Prop 8spot started airing Monday, Oct. 27, on Spanish language television stations throughout California.

"Voting no on Prop 8 is not just about gay rights," said America Ferrera."It's about preserving the integrity of equal rights in this country. This isnot about being gay or straight; it's about being American. Vote NO on Prop8."

"Family is very important to Latinos," said Tony Plana. "Prop 8discriminates against families and everything we stand for. I encourage allCalifornians to vote NO on this divisive and unfair proposition."

"Like all Americans, Latinos have family members and friends who are gayand deserve the same rights all of us have," said Ana Ortiz. "Prop 8 wouldtake away those rights and that's why we urge all Californians to vote NO."

"We are thrilled that these prominent actors are speaking directly to theLatino community," said Yvette Martinez, the political director of No on 8."Proponents have targeted the Latino community with advertisements thatcontinue to lie about Prop 8.
